Detecting olive oil adulteration in three seconds

An admixture of cheap rapeseed oil changes the spectrum in a few narrow ranges. We show at what admixture share the measurement picks it up.

An admixture of cheap rapeseed oil changes the spectrum of olive oil in a few narrow spectral ranges. This article is a placeholder: fill it in with the admixture detection threshold, spectra charts for pure vs. adulterated oil, and a description of the test methodology.

To fill in

  • The spectral ranges most sensitive to rapeseed oil admixture.
  • The lowest detected admixture percentage.
  • Comparison against a reference method (e.g. chromatography).
  • Limitations of the method — when the measurement can give a false result.
